Netflix and Chill…

E0646CC8-569C-4BA9-9A1B-630F7612F44CEveryone loves a good series to get lost in, I myself am a self proclaimed queen of binge watching. My greatest achievement to date is probably a whole 10 seasons of Criminal Minds in the space of 3 months. Each season has 20 something episodes, at 40 minutes an episode that is a rough total of over 8000 minutes of criminal minds flat out in three months. (My math might be wrong) ( And yes I work full time and have a life and still found time to get that done.)

Netflix has a lot of great series to offer right now so I thought, hey, maybe I could write a little recommendation post? So yeah, let’s go.

First I’m going to start with The Punisher, wow, are you kidding me, it’s amazing… where do I learn to be as tough as Frank Castle?? He is my gym inspiration and idol. A former marine turned vigilante, out to make criminals pay for their crimes. If that alone doesn’t sound good enough to make you want to watch it, then you must have really shit taste in shows.

Sorry, not sorry.

The Punisher stars Jon Bernthal, who you may recognise as Shane from The Walking Dead. (Also a great show, note that one down too.)

Next, YOU. Starring Penn Badgley from Gossip Girl.

Looks like Lonely boy has taken things up a notch from Gossip Girl. Boy meets girl, boy stalks girl online, boy stalks girl in real life.

Also GIRL NEEDS TO BUY HERSELF SOME DAMN CURTAINS! Xoxo

How far will Joe go to get the girl of his dreams?

YOU also stars Shay Mitchell who played Emily Fields in Pretty Little Liars. (Also on Netflix)

If you liked YOU, then try watching Dirty John. Same kind of motive… manipulative guy prays on single women on dating websites where he plays out the dream guy making them fall in love with him, but is John really as perfect as he’s making out? Red flag alert 🚩 Note to self: Stay single forever and don’t online date.

Dirty John is based on a true story, I watched the whole thing in two sittings, I could have done one and binged the whole thing but I had work to go to. (Super inconvenient.) Starring Eric Bana & Connie Britton from 911, Nashville and American Horror Story. (you know what to do… add to watch list)

I’m currently watching The Umbrella Academy, which is a comic book written by Gerard Way (yep, that Gerard Way, Frontman of the band My Chemical Romance.) It is incredible, I’m loving it! It’s just looks really cool visually and the story is cool too!

Forty-three babies are born around the world on the same day to women who weren’t pregnant when they woke up that morning. Seven of them are adopted by a billionaire and become a little dysfunctional superhero family. I’m 3 episodes in right now and I can’t decide who is my favourite character. I’m torn between Klaus and Number 5. But that could all change as I watch more. Starring Ellen Page and Robert Sheehan who played Nathan in E4’s Misfits

Im always going to recommend American Horror Story, always, I’m obsessed. I’ve watched the first season so many times, it’s my favourite. I Like them all but murder house is my ultimate season! While we’re talking about Ryan Murphy shows make sure you add American Crime Story to your list too, season one was on the OJ Simpson case, you have probably seen that one already, but Netflix has recently added season 2, which follows the story of Andrew Cunanan, the man behind the murder of Gianni Versace. (I previously wrote a whole post on the assassination of Gianni Versace, scroll through previous posts to read more.)  I can’t tell you how much I love Ryan Murphy’s work, anything he is behind is amazing, always. He’s also to thank for shows such as Glee, 911 (as mentioned earlier.) and Scream Queens.

How to Get Away With Murder

Hemlock Grove

Homeland

Insatiable

There’s so many shows to choose from and I know sometimes you spend more time looking through what Netflix has, than time actually watching anything at all.

Sugar Puffs or Frosties?

BE74821A-2960-42E4-986C-C77995B15DADBANDERSNATCH…. Where do I start? Well obviously with Frosties or Sugar puffs, I went for Frosties, I accepted the job because I thought that was what Stefan wanted, but it obviously wasn’t. Back to the start and a fast forward catch up on the decisions I made before I made the wrong one. I’m declining the job, I followed Colin, took the drugs and made him jump off the balcony. Then from there I went to the therapist, spoke about mom, went home, shouted at dad, casually murdered him, buried the body.  Because who can be bothered to cut up the body? Not me. I finished making the game and then the damn dog dug up the body and I went to jail, they released Bandersnatch unfinished. Then fast forward to now and you have Colin’s daughter, Pearl finishing Stefan’s game design. I then spent about an hour going back and making other choices to see how Stefan’s life could have been different had I made other decisions….

I cut the body up and still ended up in jail. The best part though… I had a huge fight with the therapist. It was hilarious. I also changed my option from Black Mirror to Netflix when Stefan asked who was there, I tried out PACS as an option too. It’s crazy how many options and different paths there are to go down just by one simple change.

How did your story go down?

D4DE3765-5356-4322-90A8-66C860729711

honestly went through so many I can’t even remember them all now, I got tied up and lost in Bandersnatch!

Black Mirror completely just black mirrored us in all sense of what the series is about. Futuristic and extreme possibilities with technology taking over.

We all made different choices and came out with different stories but the final outcome pretty much ended the same way  for us all right? It was never going to be a happy ending for Stefan.

Its funny because that is genuinely how life works, one tiny decision can affect your whole day, your whole life. There are so many paths we can go down and who knows what the ending will be for us. Unless someone is controlling us????  Joking! I liked it. That is the first interactive thing I’ve ever watched and I can’t imagine how long it took them to work out all the possible options branching from each decision, then film, edit and get it all in order. Crazy. Well done though. It was exciting. As soon as I finished I was DYING to talk about it to someone.

Black Mirror genuinely is so incredible, Charlie Brooker is out here over exaggerating real life situations and how things could possibly become, how we rely on technology and let it control us and how it is our life. Like the episode Nosedive. (Season 3 episode 1) it’s all about how you are perceived by others on the internet, getting likes, uploading content that’s not true, you know like how people do on Instagram! It’s not real life.

Some of the best episodes of Black Mirror in my opinion are;

White bear.

Shut up and dance.

Hang the DJ.

Playtest.

Hated in the nation.

San junipero.

Fifteen million merits.

The entire history of you.

Okay, I can’t decide I pretty much love them all. Some… not as good as others, but that’s just because the rest are really, really, really incredible. I can’t wait for the next season!

The last episode of The Defiant Ones has me so emotional right now, when Dr Dre got Eminem in the studio for the first time and they just come straight up with My Name Is, oh my god, I’m like almost in tears, So happy just watching how their work relationship and friendship began and grew into what it is now. INCREDIBLE.
I have always loved Eminem since I was like 9 or 10, I can remember I would go with my mom to pick my dad up from the pub on a Sunday and I would ALWAYS go straight up to the jukebox, scroll straight to The Marshall Mathers LP, and play Kim. Then that Christmas I got Stan on single, because my dad knew I loved him, but I don’t think my dad was ready for the lyrics on that track (or any Eminem track) at the time and he was so shocked at what I was rapping along to but I’d play it over and over, on repeat all the time! Even to this day I think he knows the majority of the lyrics still!
Eminem IS the greatest rapper of all time. From there on I got every single album he had ever put out and continued to do that even now all the way up to his latest album, Revival. I finally got to see Eminem live at Leeds festival in 2013 and it was mind blowing, i actually just left my friend and kept popping up on random peoples shoulders in the crowd, getting closer and closer to the stage. I honestly never believed I would get to see him, after his ten year break and not really touring anymore so I was absolutely on top of the world. It was incredible!!! One of the most amazing nights of my life.  Then again a year later at Wembley stadium in London, again… in-cred-i-ble.
I also saw him again at Leeds Festival in 2017, he does not disappoint, ever.

So anyway, let me get out of Marshall’s ass for a second and talk to you about,
The Defiant Ones.
A four part HBO documentary series on the rise of Dr Dre and how he grew up in Compton, LA, and we journey through his life up to when he met Jimmy Iovine who was living in New York and from there, how they continued to grow within themselves, build upon their names and their business’.
From Dre’s early years, to releasing N.W.A’s first single Panic zone in 1987 to selling his headphone company Beats, to Apple in 2014 for $30 billion dollars. Making him the highest earning musician that year, and first billionaire in Hip Hop.

Incredible, I don’t even have the words. I’m totally blown away by this documentary-series. It was amazing to see all these incredible artists from Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, Patti Smith, Gwen Stefani, Snoop Dogg, Diddy to Will.i.am, U2, Kendrick Lamar and Tupac,  Just to name a few. Even two of my absolute favourites were featured, Marilyn Manson and Lady Gaga.

IMG_0227

Jimmy Iovine and Dr Dre make producing music look so easy, its like they see what no-one else does, right in front of them and create incredible albums and singles with so many artists. I respect Jimmy Iovine and Dr Dre on a whole other level now, more than I already did before. They transformed their own lives and so many others lives around them.

The Defiant Ones, Available on Netflix now.
